Classroom and Emergency Tool Kits

Have emergency tools available in addition to personal supplies for students.

During disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes etc., doors can jam, windows might not open or partially broken glass needs to be removed for safety.
While we suggest to keep these type of tool kits under lock and key for student safety, having emergency tools in a ready to go kits in several places is essential.

While your immediate thought might be 'Our Maintenance Crew and Janitors have tools available" the question is "Will the janitor and maintenance crew be available at the moment you need their assistance?" Or will they be overwhelmed with the number of locations they need to assist at the same time while also ensuring that building systems and utilities are safe and secured. Will they even be able to get to you based on logistics and how will you communicate with them if power is out and communication systems are down?

Consider having emergency tool kits located in strategic places so that teachers and other authorized personnel have access to life saving tools and supplies.
