Emergency Preparedness Tips

Emergencies Happen - Be Prepared!

OK so the end of the world didn't happen in 2012 - Good for us!

But what if another earthquake or hurricane came your way now?

Regardless of what one believes, it is always a good idea to be prepared for Emergencies and Disasters. Mother nature, planet earth and humans are unpredictable and can generate a variety of disasters for which we need to be prepared.

Emergency Preparedness is not about the end of the world.
It is about planning ahead for small, medium sized and even the larger scale disasters.

Emergency Preparedness is not about being scared.
It is about being ready and feeling better once you are prepared.

Emergency Preparedness is not about sitting back and waiting for the government to arrive.
It is about being self sufficient for several days, even without outside assistance and help.

Emergency Preparedness is not a sign of weakness.
It is a sign of taking responsibility for one's self and those that depend on you during times of crisis.

Emergency Preparedness is not about wasting money on stuff that sits in a closet.
It is about carefully selecting the supplies and gear that best suit your needs based on your living situation.

Emergency Preparedness is not about being selfish.
It is about being able to survive a dangerous situation and get to safety - and then being able to assist those that need help.

Emergency Preparedness is not difficult!
If is about letting your day pass through your mind, morning to evening, and then determine what items and supplies you need during a 24 hour period such as;
  • sanitary items
  • clothing
  • food and water
  • shelter
  • light and warmth

  • Then think what else you need during a disaster, such as;
  • evacuation routes to safe areas
  • items to help yourself and others in need
  • first aid
  • safety tools and equipment
  • and more, depending on your living situation

  • Then think about what you need after a disaster, such as;
  • contact information for family, friends, etc.
  • contact information for insurance, doctors, hospital, etc.
  • methods to communicate with family, friends, etc.
  • documentation for personal ID, insurance, health care, etc.
  • place of shelter if your home became unlivable
  • and more, depending on your living situation
